How much will a car accident lawyer cost me? How does a contingency fee work?

Initial Consultation is Free:

Our office offers free initial consultations for all personal injury cases. This include motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice claims, and also any worker’s compensation claims. Unlike at some other larger firms, you will speak directly with one of our attorneys who will personally handle your case. It costs you nothing to come in and speak with one of our attorneys about your case.

Contingency Fee for Handling the Claim:

Personal injury claims are handled on a contingency fee basis. With a contingency fee the client will only pay an attorney fee if the case is won. We do not receive a fee unless you win your case. If the case is won or settled then the attorney would be owed a fee. The contingency fee is not an hourly fee but rather is a fixed percentage of the overall recovery. The common percentage for contingency fees for personal injury claims is Thirty-Three and One-Third percent.

The attorney fees are only paid if your case is won, however there are some other expenses that could be the responsibility of the client. Some of these fees include court costs or expert witness fees. These fees are generally paid by our office and then taken out of after settlement or judgment is reached in the case. It is important to consult with one of our attorneys to determine what fees would apply in each individual case.

Even after the contingency fee is paid, individuals who have retained an attorney to handle their claims will likely see more money put into their pockets than those individuals who have braved the fight with the insurance companies alone. Having an attorney who can accurately evaluate your claim and communicate with the insurance provider can help facilitate a higher settlement.

Negotiating with Medical Providers:

When settling a case it is important to consider what will need to be held back to pay medical bills. If one of our attorneys is helping you with your claim they will contact your providers after the case has been resolved to negotiate any final liens you may have. Our attorneys will work to lower the amounts due in order to maximize what our clients can put into their pockets.
